  1. LGBTI rights: an activity pack for teachers of children and young people

    This resource enables teachers to explore the human rights of sexual minority groups with children and young people. LGBTI stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people. These activities are designed to enable young people to use language positively, to celebrate diversity and tolerance. Teachers of primary, secondary and FE students can look at the suggested age-range of each activity and select appropriately for their students. Activities meet statutory curricular requirements across the UK.

Other stakeholders include youth and student organisations, LGBTQ-focused NGOs, and other advocacy groups.

  5. A Brief on school bullying on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity: LGBT-friendly Thailand?

    The analysis presented here is from a study commissioned by UNESCO Bangkok and Plan International Thailand, and conducted by Mahidol University. There has been research on school bullying in Thailand, but only anecdotal evidence on bullying specifically targetting students who are, or are perceived to be, LGBT, or mechanisms to counter it in Thai schools. This study aimed to fill this gap in evidence, and to identify policy and programme implications. It is the first systematic study on the issue in Thailand.

  6. Advocate for sexual diversity education: A guide to advocate for enhanced quality of education dealing with sexual diversity

    This guide is a follow-up of the UNESCO consultation on homophobic bullying in educational institutions during 2011-2012. On 16 May 2012, a UNESCO report on homophobic bullying in educational institutions was published. GALE, which is a formal cooperating partner of UNESCO, assisted the consultation process by pointing the way to research, good practices and NGO partners, and by providing input in the publication.   8. Responding to harassment of LGBT youth in schools: snapshots from three trend-setting countries

    This report explores three countries’ responses to one aspect of LGBT marginalization—school harassment of LGBT youth. In particular, the authors studied the policies and programs of the United States, Germany and Brazil in an effort to identify lessons learned that could help ameliorate school harassment of LGBT youth and create the beginnings of a 3Rs movement to end homophobia and transphobia and the negative impact they have on young people.   9. Hatred in the hallways: violence and discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender students in U.S. schools

    This publication discusses documented attacks on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who have been subjected to abuse by their peers, and in some cases by their teachers and school administrators. To date, these violations are compounded by the lack of legislation to protect these students from discrimination and violence. Youth around the world ages 12 through 21 were interviewed for this report. In addition, 130 youth service providers, teachers, counselors, and parents were surveyed. …
