  6. Responding to harassment of LGBT youth in schools: snapshots from three trend-setting countries

    This report explores three countries’ responses to one aspect of LGBT marginalization—school harassment of LGBT youth. In particular, the authors studied the policies and programs of the United States, Germany and Brazil in an effort to identify lessons learned that could help ameliorate school harassment of LGBT youth and create the beginnings of a 3Rs movement to end homophobia and transphobia and the negative impact they have on young people.     This Regional Strategic Framework focuses on three core issues that are of utmost importance for the realization of the MDG 6 in Latin America and the Caribbean: evidence, human rights and capacity. Effective responses to HIV epidemics require robust and reliable information about who is affected by HIV and about what works in prevention and care.   8. Hatred in the hallways: violence and discrimination against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender students in U.S. schools

    This publication discusses documented attacks on the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who have been subjected to abuse by their peers, and in some cases by their teachers and school administrators. To date, these violations are compounded by the lack of legislation to protect these students from discrimination and violence. Youth around the world ages 12 through 21 were interviewed for this report. In addition, 130 youth service providers, teachers, counselors, and parents were surveyed. …

    Research was reviewed related to the negative results of homophobia on gays, lesbians and bisexuals (GLB), and the economic impact of such negative effects.
