  3. HIV and AIDS in Georgia: A Socio-Cultural Approach

    The current report is the first attempt at an in-depth analysis of the socio-cultural factors driving the HIV epidemic in Georgia and the socio-cultural resources that can be used in the response to the epidemic. In addition, it explores effective ways to communicate messages about HIV prevention to the population, and in particular youth, while keeping a balance between local culture and traditions, and innovative educational interventions.

    This toolkit is written for community leaders, AIDS educators, people living with HIV, health workers, teachers, media workers, and others involved in the AIDS field in Cambodia. Its aim is to build awareness and commitment to confront HIV stigma, and promote more care and support for people living with HIV. The toolkit is a collection of participatory educational exercises for use in raising awareness and promoting action to challenge HIV stigma.     HIV-SRH convergence is defined as a very wide range of activities or processes, which are undertaken with an objective to provide a complete package to enable people to access services for HIV and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) which overlap.     As part of a two-country study (with Namibia), TAMASHA was contracted by UNESCO to carry out research into the needs of children in school living with HIV and the extent to which their rights and needs were being fulfilled. This research was carried out by interviewing national policy-makers and officials, as well as district officials in Njombe District. Children living with HIV and others affected by AIDS were also interviewed, together with their parents, guardians and teachers, and organizations working with them in Dar-es-Salaam and Njombe District in Iringa Region. …
