  1. My future is my choice [evaluation]

    The overall purpose of the research was to evaluate My Future is My Choice (MFMC), a national peer education HIV prevention life skills programme in Namibia, and to provide recommendations for programme improvement and strengthening. An official extra-curricular life skills program of the Ministry of Education at secondary and combined schools, the MFMC programme seeks to protect young people from HIV infection and sexually transmitted diseases as well as prevent unintended pregnancies.

  2. Effectiveness of a peer-led HIV prevention intervention in secondary schools in Rwanda: results from a non-randomized controlled trial

    While the HIV epidemic is levelling off in sub-Saharan Africa, it remains at an unacceptably high level. Young people aged 15-24 years remain particularly vulnerable, resulting in a regional HIV prevalence of 1.4% in young men and 3.3% in young women. This study assesses the effectiveness of a peer-led HIV prevention intervention in secondary schools in Rwanda on young people’s sexual behavior, HIV knowledge and attitudes.   3. Evaluation of a school-based sexual and reproductive health education intervention among adolescents in rural Bangladesh

    This article is based on a school-based intervention which was undertaken to improve knowledge about reproduction, fertility, and contraception among adolescents in Bangladesh. The study was carried out from February 2001 to September 2002. The objective of the study was to determine the ffectiveness of school-based intervention which combined community sensitization with the distribution of three booklets addressing 1) puberty, 2) fertility and family planning, and 3) STDs/AIDS. …

  4. Adolescent reproductive health project : AIDS action clubs in schools

    This programme is included in the Source Book of HIV/AIDS Prevention Program that presents 13 cases studies of good and promising practices of HIV/AIDS prevention programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. Africare, a Zimbabwean NGO established its AIDS Action Clubs Program in collaboration with the District Education Office in 2000. This regional programme is aimed at improving reproductive health of adolescents and young adults in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa. …
