This report examines the findings of an external assessment of the A+ programme, an innovative IPPF youth-led programme funded by Danida. The Kenya Girl Guide Association (KGGA) and Family Health International (FHI)/Impact began a program, which was developed by PATH, in 1999 to train young Girl Guides as HIV peer educators in their schools. The project aims to improve knowledge and skills related to HIV prevention and care among Girl Guides and their peers. In collaboration with KGGA and FHI/Impact, the Horizons Program is currently conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of this intervention model in achieving the objectives of the peer education program. …
This report, commissioned by the Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), brings out findings of an external assessment of the Youth-to-Youth (Y2Y) Initiative in Ethiopia and Kenya. The aim was to assess the results of the Y2Y-Initiative for young people with an emphasis on gender equality in the project regions both at individual level for participating young women and men as well as at the level of potentially changed perceptions of, and attitudes towards young people, in particular women, in their social environment.
This toolkit was designed to be used by implementors such as experienced programme staff from NGOs, government offices or private industries who want to implement an SRH project for 10-14 year olds enrolled in primary school. The project activities within the toolkit rely on the implementor creating a strong partnership with local schools and community leaders. HIV infection rates among young Kenyan women outnumber those of young men by nearly six to one. Younger adolescents (10-15 years old) get most of their information about sexuality from their peers, who need to be equipped with accurate information and skills in order to better carry out their communication role.The Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) reaches over 100,000 school-going adolescents and has recently embarked on a "Peer Education on HIV and AIDS Prevention" program to equip girls and their peers with information and skills regarding HIV prevention and care. …
