  1. A sexual and reproductive health peer education programme for girls in grades 7 to 9. Mentor’s manual

    This sexual and reproductive health (SRH) peer education programme was developed as part of the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) Leveraging Partnerships to Achieve the Goals of South Africa’s HIV & AIDS and STI National Strategic Plan 2012–16, otherwise known as Keeping Girls in School. The aim of this component of the programme is to shift social norms and change sexual behaviour by reinforcing and supporting the SRH messages received via the curriculum in order to increase retention and reduce the risk of HIV infection and teenage pregnancy.

  4. Discovering the potential of girl guides: 12 peer education sessions

    The Kenya Girl Guides Association implements an integrated program on Life Skills and Peer Education in schools. Adult Guide Leaders conduct Life Skills sessions with Guides in Girl Guide Units in each participating school. Over the three terms or trimesters, 24 hours of sessions are held on 12 topics. The sessions help Girl Guides to learn about and explore the topics for themselves. Each Guide Unit has about 50 Girl Guides and four Patrol Leaders - an informed and sizeable group that can reach the rest of the school in a positive way. …

    This toolkit shares the experiences of a project on sexuality and life skills led by the International HIV/AIDS Alliance started in 2003. The toolkit is based on a number of workshops and discussions with teachers and students. Throughout the development of the toolkit, students contributed questions, stories, problem letters and pictures. The result is a series of three books developed with teachers and learners in Grades 4 to 9 from 14 schools in the Chipata District of Zambia. …

    This booklet is an example of life skills based education materials used in emergency situations, especially for children and young people who are vulnerable to sexual abuse and rape. While the materials are intended for an audience aged 10 and above, the core content of the material is universally applicable and the materials can be adapted to a particular situation.   7. MEMA kwa vijana program

    This programme is included in the Source Book of HIV/AIDS Prevention Program that presents 13 cases studies of good and promising practices of HIV/AIDS prevention programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. The AMREF, LSHTM and NIMR, initiated a program in 62 primary schools and 18 health facilities in Mwanza region in Tanzania in January 1999.
