  6. Tackling child marriage and early childbearing in India: lessons from Young Lives

    The Government of India has made combatting child marriage and early childbearing a priority. This brief uses data collected from 1,000 19-year-olds in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to help inform policy and programming efforts. In Young Lives survey, 28% of girls and just 1% of boys married before the age of 18. By the age of 19, a majority (59%) of married young women had already given birth. Young Lives has been following the lives of these young people and their families since 2002. …

    This report summarizes HIV prevalence and the associations between HIV serostatus and key characteristics and behaviors of adult women and men in 22 developing countries, primarily in sub- Saharan Africa. Data come from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and AIDS Indicator Surveys (AIS) conducted between 2001 and 2006.   13. Nepal: support communication to enhance young mothers' reproductive health

    This study was undertaken as part of a reproductive health project implemented by the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and the Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA), sought to improve social norms that leave young women vulnerable to health risks related to early marriage and childbearing and limited access to reproductive health services. It was found that communication-based support to mothersÆ groups and newly formed youth communication groups improved reproductive health knowledge and behavior among young married women in Nepal.
