This resource is intended to provide support to key individuals as they fulfil their responsibilities in ensuring that their school is safe, supportive and affirming of all students, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, students perceived to be LGBT and students who have close family members (parents, siblings, etc.) who are LGBT.
In February 2013, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Youth and Student Organisation (IGLYO) commissioned Eleanor Formby from Sheffield Hallam University (in the UK) to carry out research on the impact of homophobic and transphobic bullying on education and employment in Europe. An online survey used, specifically targeted at a range of countries: Croatia, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, and Poland. Action Plan on Bullying, launched by the Minister for Education and Skills, and the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, sets out twelve actions to help prevent and tackle bullying in primary and second level schools.
