    This framework sets a standard for training providers and in-service coordinators to help plan, deliver and evaluate training in HIV/AIDS, STIs, reproductive health, peer education and life skills. The training pathways aim to guide teachers to the appropriate training course for their experience and previous professional development. The purpose of the framework is to: 1. Support schools planning in-service on Personal Development or HIV/AIDS & STIs; 2. Guide training providers and partner organisations in delivering in-service training.

  4. Sexuality education matters: Preparing pre-service teachers to teach sexuality education

    Sexuality Education Matters is designed to support pre-service teacher education programs to prepare students to teach sexuality education in primary and secondary schools. It builds on the research and teaching experience of Debbie Ollis and Lyn Harrison at Deakin University. It assumes that sexuality education in Australian schools is part of a comprehensive health and physical education curriculum. Even so, many of the activities, suggested readings and teaching and learning experiences could be adapted or used in other contexts that focus on school-based sexuality education.

  7. How to reach young adolescents: A toolkit for educating 10 - 14 year olds on sexual and reproductive health

    This toolkit was designed to be used by implementors such as experienced programme staff from NGOs, government offices or private industries who want to implement an SRH project for 10-14 year olds enrolled in primary school. The project activities within the toolkit rely on the implementor creating a strong partnership with local schools and community leaders. The toolkit presents several overlapping approaches to increase young adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health knowledge and improve their sexual behaviours.

  8. Review of policies and strategies to implement and scale up sexuality education in Asia and the Pacific

    This review examines the existing frameworks present in the Asia-Pacific region to implement and scale up sexuality education. It includes a systematic review of over 300 national policies, laws, strategic plans on HIV, education, population and reproductive health, and youth in 28 countries in Asia and the Pacific. The review finds that there are still significant gaps across the region in terms of legal and policy frameworks. Of all types of policy documents analysed, education policies and laws were least likely to include content on sexuality education. …

  9. HIV prevention through drugs and sex education in junior high schools in Bandung West Java: the teachers' perspective

    The aim of this report was to identify teachers' views on knowledge, skills and curriculum content needs; attitudes; self-efficacy; and beliefs regarding teaching reproductive health and drug education in their junior high schools, in order to identify whether such programs should be implemented. From February through April 2009, 133 teachers completed a survey documenting socio demographics, behavioral intention, perceived behavior control, content knowledge, school climate, reproductive health (RH) knowledge and school drug education (DE). …

  10. HIV Counselling Handbook for the Asia-Pacific

    This handbook was developed for trainers, counsellors in training, and working counsellors to assist them in delivering high-quality HIV testing and counselling services. It highlights the important contribution of counsellors to HIV prevention, care, and support activities and forms one of three parts of the HIV Counselling Resource Package, which also includes trainer's session plans, participatory learning activities, and an HIV counsellor's toolkit.

    This manual is the revised Curriculum Guide for teacher preparation in HFLE. The main goal of this guide is to provide participants and tutors with a framework for delivery of health and family life education lessons. Curriculum units develop five Themes with recommended standards, outcomes, general objectives and skills.

    The main goal of the manual is to provide regional coordinators with materials to conduct teacher-training in the HFLE Common Curriculum on two unit themes: Self and Interpersonal Relationships (which incorporates violence prevention) and Sexuality and Sexual Health (which includes HIV/AIDS prevention).   14. Trauma, Guilt and Self Esteem - Counselling Training Manual

    Improved counseling skills have been identified as a key to better serving adolescent clients and combating HIV and AIDS, particularly for the poor and the marginalized. The objectives of this training manual include (1) building the capacities of counselors and service providers in three areas: self esteem development, dealing with trauma, and addressing guilt; (2) providing practical and hands-on training by using participatory teaching methods; and (3) responding to the needs of counselors so that they can apply knowledge and experience in their respective settings.
