This publication is the result of the project funded by the UNAIDS Young People Commitment and CO-Responsibility in Preventing the Spread of HIV and AIDS. The primary objective is to include the perceptions of youth in the formulation and implementation of HIV and AIDS policies, thereby enhancing the involvement of youth in the containment of the epidemic. It is therefore intended to raise awareness by promoting strategies to respond to the HIV and AIDS epidemic, taking into account the participation of youth in the policy-making process and the implementation of preventive efforts.
This paper reports on programs that have helped young people in developing countries practise healthier behaviours, including delaying sexual debut, reducing the number of sexual partners, and increasing the use of methods of preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS. It is addressed to program planners, administrators, policymakers, and donors interested in developing evidence-based strategies and programs to promote better health for youth.
This report presents the perceptions, attitudes and experiences of higher risk teenagers toward HIV testing in intimate and often poignant detail. As teens describe their fears and painful transgressions relating to sexual experiences with others, we are provided with considerable insight into the lives of inner-city youth and the challenges they face as they move from childhood to adulthood.This research discovered troubling attitudes among teenagers towards condom use. …
