  3. The HIV/AIDS epidemic in eastern Europe: recent patterns and trends and their implications for policy-making

    This document describes recent patterns and trends in the HIV epidemic in eastern Europe. AIDS programme managers and epidemiologists of 23 countries were contacted and requested to provide national HIV surveillance data. Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS/World Health Organisation country fact sheets were reviewed and analysed, and this information was supplemented with published HIV prevalence and sexually transmitted disease case reporting information, unpublished travel reports and expert evaluations.

  4. Viet Nam HIV/AIDS Estimates and Projection 2007 - 2012

    To support HIV/AIDS program planning, the Ministry of Health has carried out HIV/AIDS estimates and projections since 2003 based on recommendations of the UN Reference Group on Estimates, Modeling and Projections. In 2007 and 2008, the Viet Nam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC) in the Ministry of Health collaborated with national and international partners to conduct a second round of Estimates and Projections in Viet Nam in 2007-2008, which optimized the use of existing data to obtain updated HIV epidemiologic data. …

  5. HIV/AIDS epidemiology and prevention in China

    This article presents a review on HIV/AIDS epidemic history, current situation and prevention policy in China. HIV/AIDS epidemic groups and trends for HIV transmission were also discussed. In January 2006, 650 000 people were estimated to be living with HIV in China. The overall HIV/AIDS epidemic is at a low level (0.05%) and concentrated in several at risk populations. However, the data show that new cases of HIV infection are growing every year and spreading from at risk populations to the general population. …

    A mid-term assessment of the UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS for 2007-2010 was undertaken between 17 November and 12 December 2008.   7. Levels and spread of HIV seroprevalence and associated factors: evidence from national household surveys

    This report summarizes HIV prevalence and the associations between HIV serostatus and key characteristics and behaviors of adult women and men in 22 developing countries, primarily in sub- Saharan Africa. Data come from Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and AIDS Indicator Surveys (AIS) conducted between 2001 and 2006. In most of these surveys, nationally representative samples of women age 15-49 and men age 15-59 were tested for HIV. …

  8. Revised national strategic plan II for a comprehensive and multi-sectoral response to HIV/AIDS 2008-2010

    The National Strategic Plan for a Comprehensive and Multisectoral Response to HIV/AIDS 2006-2010 (NSP II) was originally developed in 2005. This revised version of the NSP II covers the remaining three years (2008-2010) and concerns an update. The revised NSP II is part of the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) for 2006-2010, which in turn supports the Royal Government's Rectangular Strategy for the development of Cambodia. The NSDP gives highest priority to poverty reduction and progress towards reaching the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals (CMDG) targets by 2015. …

  9. Study of young men's sexual behaviour. Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic. August-November 2004

    This study (one of the few of its kind conducted in Laos) provides a wealth of information on the sexual behaviour of young men, which could guide future HIV prevention programs. While the survey only looks at the attitudes and activities of men living and working in Vientiane, it nonetheless illuminates both important similarities and differences in Lao male behaviour compared to men in other countries, including countries in the immediate region.

  11. Indonesia demographic and health survey 2002-2003

    The main objective of the 2002-2003 IDHS is to provide policy-makers and programme managers in population and health with detailed information on population, family planning, and health. In particular, the 2002-2003 IDHs collected information on female respondents' socio-economic background, fertility levels, marriage and sexual activity, fertility preferences, knowledge and use of family planning methods, breastfeeding practices, childhood and adult mortality, including maternal mortality, maternal and child health and awareness and behaviour regarding AIDS and other STIs in Indonesia.

  14. Status and trends of STI, HIV and AIDS at the end of the millennium: Western Pacific Region

    The book presents the status and trends of STI, HIV and AIDS in the Western Pacific Region based on the cumulative number of cases of HIV diagnoses in all countries of the Region. Analysis of the trend of the relative proportion in HIV risk exposure suggests that there have been three waves - first, sexual contact among men; second, widespread sharing of equipment among injecting drug users; and finally, the steady increase in the proportion of reported cases with heterosexual contact.
