  1. Integrating Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Programming Into Vocational Education and Training in Zanzibar: AYA's Advocacy for Policy Formation and Support for Pilot Implementation

    The African Youth Alliance is a five-year initiative to expand national campaigns in Botswana, Ghana, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania to educate youth (aged 10-24) about reproductive health matters, including HIV/AIDS prevention, and to provide them with the necessary information, skills, and support to protect themselves. The initiative began in 2000. This document gives an overwiev of this innovative program in Zanzibar.

  3. Project update : baseline survey results : integrating adolescent livelihood activities within a Reproductive Health Program for Urban Slum Dwellers in India

    The Population Council in collaboration with CARE India conducted an operations research study of an intervention designed to improve the lives and prospects of several slums areas of Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. The project aimed to take pre-existing reproductive health programme for adolescents and test the feasibility and impact of adding four additional components to it: counselling about savings formation and livelihoods; training in vocational skills; assistance in opening savings accounts; and follow-up support. …

  4. Sex, Techs and HIV: A report of the HIV response in a national sample of trade apprentices

    The original project was designed to examine the resonances between gender as it constructed in the occupational setting and the HIV response of young people. Data were generated through a large scale national survey of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) apprentices in the occupational streams of hairdressing, automotive, and commercial cookery. A total of 4283 apprentices from 52 colleges across all states and territories of Australia completed the survey. This report presents some main indices on HIV-related issues drawn from this database.
