  1. LGBT action plan 2018: improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people

    With over 75 commitments, the cross-Government plan sets out how the Government will improve the lives of LGBT people. Some of the key actions include: Appointing a national LGBT health adviser to provide leadership on reducing the health inequalities that LGBT people face; Extending the anti-homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying programme in schools; Bringing forward proposals to end the practice of conversion therapy in the UK; and Taking further action on LGBT hate crime – improving the recording and reporting of, and police response to, hate crime.

  3. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and attitudes towards people living with HIV among the general staff of a public university in Malaysia

    Stigma and discrimination towards people living with HIV have been widely documented, and have extended their impact into the workplace. Stigmatising attitudes towards people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the workplace significantly hinder HIV prevention efforts and indirectly affect national development. This cross-sectional study was designed to determine the level of knowledge about HIV and AIDS and assess attitudes towards PLHIV among the general staff of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), as well as to identify factors that are associated with it.

  5. Workplace HIV and AIDS policy for the education sector implementation plan for the period 2009 to 2011

    This implementation plan is based on the four components of the education sector workplace policy in Namibia namely, awareness rasing and empowerment; mainstreaming HIV and AIDS; strengthening regulatory frameworks; and managing the HIV and AIDS response. The plan sets out objectives and indicators of success for each of the four components and shows a matrix of activities to achieve objectives, outputs or targets, outcomes or results, time frame, lead agency and implementing partners.

    Today, evidence points indisputably to the important intersection of HIV and gender inequality. In 2010, women and girls accounted for more than half of all people living with HIV (about 52%).     The purpose of the study summarised in this document was to determine the roles of educators in mitigating the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and to ascertain the skills and knowledge required by them to play such roles effectively. Recognising that educators have a crucial role to play in all education subsectors, the study investigated the current and possible future roles of educators in schools and further education and training (FET) colleges as well as those of educators working in the higher education (HE) subsector.

    The objectives of this policy are: to ensure a supportive work environment for staff infected and affected by HIV/AIDS; to eliminate stigma and discrimination in the workplace on the basis of real or perceived HIV status or vulnerability to HIV infection; to reduce the number of new infections among teachers, their families and to ensure that the rights of teachers living with HIV/AIDS are fully respected.
