  4. Growing up global: the changing transitions to adulthood in developing countries

    This report finds that, compared to the situation 20 years ago, young people are entering adolescence in better health and reaching puberty earlier. They are also more likely to attend school, more likely to postpone entering the labor force, and more likely to delay marriage and childbearing. These broad statements, however, capture only the average tendencies for young people in developing countries.   6. The case for investing in young people : as part of a national poverty reduction strategy

    This publication focuses on national efforts to reduce poverty and presents seven arguments for why national public policy makers should give more attention to young people, if these efforts are to be successful. This paper offers a conceptual framework to work out what arguments and supporting evidence in relation to young people are likely to be most appropriate to apply in the context of developing or refining a national poverty reduction strategy.     This survey known as SAVY, which stands for Survey Assessment of Vietnamese Youth, was carried out by the Ministry of Health (MoH), the General Statistics Office (GSO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations ChildrenÆs Fund (UNICEF). Nearly 7600 participants from 42 provinces across the country including males and females, married and unmarried, Kinh and ethnic minority.   14. Cambodia national youth risk behaviour survey 2004

    This document is a sumarry of the National Youth Risk Behaviour Survey 2003-2004 conducted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports with the support of UNICEF and UNESCO. The aim of the survey was to assess the risk behaviour of young people between ages of 11 and 18. In addition to basic personal and family data, the survey covers risk activities divided into 10 areas of sexual behaviour; sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV/AIDS; weapons and violence; alcohol; smoking; drugs; traffic safety; food and health; worry, depression and suicide; and exercise and sports.

    Step-by-step guides to help adults and teens develop and implement HIV/STI prevention, peer education programme in schools, faith communities, AIDS service organizations, and community-based organization. The guide contains plans for 12 sessions, amounting to bout 22 hours of activities that will provide information and skills relating to HIV/STI prevention.
