  5. Rural children living in farm systems affected by HIV/AIDS: some issues for the rights of the children on the basis of FAO HIV/AIDS studies in Africa

    The objective of this paper is to analyse the situation of children that are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and that live in farm-households in Africa. The questions raised are: Are rural children living in "exceptionally difficult conditions" and what are their future prospects? Do they receive the special consideration they need on the basis of available resources? Have they been discriminated against? The paper presents some information extracted from FAO studies which shed light on elements for response.

This program is a unique regional initiative that will create partnerships between intermediary NGO's, UN Agenicies and SADC governments to scale up current, successful community-based programs and rapidly expand program coverage.

  15. Situation Analysis Report of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Zambia- Data Review and Enumeration

    The objectives of the data review and enumeration exercise were to: 1. Assess the current magnitude of orphans; 2. Effectively analyse existing quantitative data; 3. Understand the relationship between the loss of one or both parents on socio-economic and welfare factors. 4. Suggest some welfare indicators for monitoring and evaluation purposes. The exercise compares the welfare of orphans and that of non-orphans in Zambia using survey livelihood indicators for poverty, residence, food security, education and health.
