  5. Tackling HIV/AIDS Stigma: Guidelines for faith-based organisations

    These guidelines were developed to provide faith leaders, HIVAIDS committees,people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in the faith community and opinion leaders within the faith-based sector with practical and user-friendly recommendations on how to create an environment free of HIV/AIDS stigma. Additional guidelines for PLHAs and media, and the national government workplace sector, are also available. The guidelines are not exhaustive and should be read in conjunction with other guideline Siyam'kela documents produced on HIV/AIDS and stigma.

    The HIV/AIDS epidemic is a health problem in which the disease impacts not only on the physical health of individuals, but also on their social identity, making it different from most other fatal diseases.   14. Developing District-Level Early Warning and Decision Support Systems to Assist in Managing and Mitigating the Impact of HIV/AIDS on Education (DEMMIS)

    This paper, presented at the Barcelona International AIDS Conference in 2002, details a pilot project for DEMMIS in districts of KwaZulu Natal province. The pilot project, or district-level Education Management & Monitoring Information System (DEMMIS), was developed to answer the need for regular HIV/AIDS sensitive data gathering systems.The data are captured at month-end in the school and sent to the district office for inclusion in an ACCESS database.The results of this project are presented here.
