  1. Integration of the UNESCO modules on diversity and gender classroom activities in basic schools in Ghana

    This document is a report of a training workshop for School Health Education Programme (SHEP) coordinators at national, regional district and school levels and selected head teachers of basic schools. The purpose of the workshop was to provide participants with the skills, background and knowledge to build respect, tolerance and critical thinking among learners. In addition, the objective was to provide practical examples of how they can integrate diversity, anti-discrimination and gender equality activities into lesson planning and delivery.

    The STRIVE Consortium convened a high level meeting to review evidence on the links between two critical global issues: HIV and violence against women and girls (VAWG) and to identify strategies to address this nexus. The consultation brought together experts from both fields to clarify what is known about the epidemiological pathways linking violence and HIV, and to identify shared risk factors and ways to act on synergies and opportunities for common programming.

    In July 2011, UNFPA, UNESCO and UNICEF jointly organised the Asia Pacific Regional Consultation on Sexuality Education and Gender, with a Special Focus on Adolescent Girls.     Girls and young women are disproportionately affected by both poverty and HIV. Donors, policymakers, researchers and program implementers are exploring economic empowerment programs as a strategy to improve the health and economic status of girls and young women.   11. Gender mainstreaming in HIV/AIDS: Seminar proceedings

    Current trends of HIV transmission and prevalence clearly show that the epidemic is fuelled by gender-based vulnerabilities. Close to 60 per cent of adults living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa are women, and almost 75 per cent of young people living with HIV in southern Africa are female. It is also clear that issues of gender need to be mainstreamed into attempts to curb the further spread of the epidemic. Research on the gender dimensions of HIV/AIDS needs to be augmented. New and existing research must be integrated into policy. …

    The Kenyan Ministry of Education, Science and Technology organized in November 2003 a three day national conference on education and training. The objectives of the conference were to build consensus on policies and strategies in education and training for improved performance in the sector.
