  3. Ministerial Commitment on comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents and young people in Eastern and Southern African (ESA)

    On December 7, 2013, ministers and their representatives from 21 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa came together to endorse and adopt the UN commitment for Eastern and Southern Africa with its recommendations for bold action in response to HIV and the education/health challenges experienced by young people. Recognising the urgency of the situation facing young people, education and health ministers have now committed to addressing young people's realities by ramping up sexuality education and health services in their countries.

    This 11-chapter manual offers trainers an array of participatory experiential exercises to reach men (and their partners), exploring gender socialization and its impact on HIV prevention and care.     This paper aims to assess whether the goals of the in-school programmes on prevention of HIV and AIDS that are taught in primary schools of 15 national ministries of education in Southern and Eastern Africa have been reached equitably between boys and girls by the end of primary education. One feature of most of these ministries is that they are in countries that are the hardest hit by a general HIV epidemic.   7. Supporting the educational needs of HIV-positive learners: lessons from Namibia and Tanzania

    This report is a commissioned review of best practice as well as an exploratory study in two countries, Namibia and Tanzania, to understand how the education sector should support HIV-positive learners at school. The increase in the number of children and young people living with HIV poses new challenges to the education sector. The report identifies the specific challenges faced by the education system in responding to the needs of HIV-positive learners and develops a set of recommendations and guidelines about how best to support them.

    In May 2006, Education International (EI) published ' Training for Life' a draft report aimed at establishing a clear picture on the record of governments in providing pre- and in-service training to teachers on HIV and AIDS.
