    BACKGROUND: Over a third of new HIV infections globally are among 15-24 year-olds and over 20% among adolescents aged 10-19 years in Asia Pacific. The review was initiated to identify interventions in the region with demonstrated or potential impact for adolescent and young key populations (YKP) looking at the role of individual and structural factors in accessibility and delivery.   3. Achieving an AIDS-free generation for gay men and other MSM in Southern Africa

    Focused specifically on six countries in southern Africa, this report describes the financing and implementation of programs for gay men, other men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals (GMT) in a region at the heart of the HIV epidemic through a combination of desk research and in-country consultations conducted by civil society advocates with implementers, policy makers, academics, and people living with HIV.

    This Six Cities Scanning Initiative Implementation Guide describes the methodology for inquiry and analysis used in a Six Cities Scanning Initiative undertaken by UNDP in the Asia Pacific region in 2010. This Guide provides the tools used in this participatory, appreciative inquiry-based project that aimed to describe promising HIV projects and activities targeting men who have sex with men and transgender people in mega-cities across Asia and the Pacific.

  5. Responding to the HIV prevention needs of adolescents and young people in Asia: Towards (cost-) effective policies and programmes

    The current paper was commissioned by UNICEF and its partners (UNFPA, UNESCO, UNAIDS) to provide advice to the AIDS Commission in Asia on policy options on how to respond to HIV/AIDS among young people, in response to a 'Policy Options Workshop' which was held in Bangkok on 4-6 January 2007. This paper aims to provide guidance to policy makers on how to respond to the HIV prevention needs of young people in Asia. In particular, it aims to set priorities for action, aimed at preventing major HIV epidemics from occurring or limiting the scope or impact of current HIV epidemics in the region.

  10. Law, policy and HIV in Asia and the Pacific: Implications on the vulnerability of men who have sex with men, female sex workers and injecting drug users

    HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment, care and surveillance among most-at-risk-populations (MARP) are impacted by national laws and policies. Laws criminalizing behaviours of most-at-risk populations, as well as the absence of protective policies and laws (for example, harm reduction policies, national HIV policies, HIV laws, and constitutional and international provisions supporting human rights) all act as barriers to effective HIV interventions, thus increasing the vulnerability of these groups. …

  14. VIH-SIDA en Uruguay: epidemia concentrada en sectores de mayor vulnerabilidad

    Nota publicada en el sitio web del Programa Prioritario de ITS y SIDA sobre la situación del VIH/SIDA en Uruguay. En un estudio realizado y publicado en diciembre de 2008, se reveló una baja prevalencia nacional, concentrada en los grupos más vulnerables. Se alcanzó una "meseta", es decir un control de la epidemia en la población general. Dos uruguayos por día eran notificados de la enfermedad, actualmente, la cifra descendió a uno, lo que demuestra que las acciones preventivas están dando sus frutos.
