    The aim of this School Health and Nutrition and HIV Prevention is to promote and facilitate the implementation of health and nutrition programming and HIV Prevention throughout the education sector in Guyana. This policy applies to all students, teachers, non-teaching staff, managers, employers, and other providers of education and training in all public and private, formal and non-formal educational institutions and in all parts of the education sector of Guyana.

  3. Education sector simplified policy on school health, nutrition and HIV&AIDS

    This booklet is a simplification of Guyana's Education Sector Policy on School Health, Nutrition and HIV& AIDS. It was designed for students, teachers, managers, employers, and other providers of education and training in educational institutions in Guyana. The booklet is intended to be an easy-to-use education and reference tool for Guyana's education sector – both formal and informal, and public and private. Its simplified content will allow for easier assimilation of the policy, and, consequently, greater understanding of individual, institutional and organizational rights and obligations.

    Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), recently conducted a desk review, commissioned by UNESCO Kingston Cluster Office for the Caribbean, to determine the core elements for developing the capacity of the education sector to perform M & E activities that will strengthen country level responses to HIV and AIDS within a coordinated regional approach.   5. Strengthening the education sector response to school health, nutrition and HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean region: a rapid survey of thirteen countries

    The overall objectives of this rapid survey undertaken by EduCan in early 2008 are to inform the development of both regional and national level education sector policies and strategies on school health, nutrition and HIV in the Caribbean region. The survey also aims to describe the current situation of education sector response to school health, nutrition, HIV and stigma, and to provide a baseline for monitoring progress. It also aims to provide data on the allocation and mobilization of resources used in such education sector responses across the region.

  6. Rapid situation analysis of the education sector's response to HIV and AIDS in the context of school health and nutrition in Guyana

    This situation analysis was undertaken as a tripartite activity of UNESCO, the World Bank, and the Partnership for Child Development for the Guyana Ministry of Education.   7. Scaling-up together we can: a proven peer education program and community mobilization strategy for youth HIV prevention, Guyana, Haiti and Tanzania. Annual report, October 1, 2008-September 30, 2009

    The Scaling Up Together We Can program is a PEPFAR-funded and USAID-supported 6+ year, $10+ million effort to reach more than 1,060,000 youth ages 10 to 24 with curriculum-based and peer-to-peer outreach, and interpersonal community wide events in Guyana, Haiti, and Tanzania. The project has already reached more than one million youth through these interpersonal and participative approaches to relaying HIV prevention messages, and many more through general diffusion "edutainment" events and mass media-based outreach.
