Promoting better health and well-being for all children and young people and supporting the contribution of national education sectors to ending AIDS are among the important UNESCO commitments towards achievement of the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Following these commitments, the most recent UNESCO Strategy on Education for Health and Well-Being (2016) has identified two strategic priorities: ensuring that all children and young people:
Countries seeking to improve their policies and school-based programmes around CSE will need to conduct monitoring and evaluating (M&E) to ensure the delivery of high-quality comprehensive HIV and sexuality education. Such M&E, however, can be challenging, as many decisions must be made upfront, including: what to measure and how, whether to use the same measure over time for comparison purposes, when to measure (short-, mid-, or long-term changes), and which (sufficient and sustainable) resources to use.
To reinforce participants’ skills in collecting, analysing, interpreting, and reporting core indicators, and in formulating policies to monitor and evaluate the delivery of comprehensive HIV and sexuality education by the education sector.
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:
Professionals from EMIS in the Ministry of Education, the HIV focal point in the education ministry if his/her participation is critical depending on the country context and the UNESCO national programme officer for HIV and school health if available.
